As we prepare for winter weather, we want to remind you to take extra precautions to keep yourself and your loved ones safe. Below are some important tips for staying healthy and protected during this chilly time:
- Bundle Up - Dress in layers to trap body heat and wear hats, scarves, gloves, and warm socks.
- Stay Indoors When Possible - If the weather is extremely cold, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities. If you must go outside, limit your time exposed to the cold and take frequent breaks in warm spaces.
- Be Prepared for Icy Conditions - Sidewalks and roads may become slippery during freezing conditions. Walk slowly, wear sturdy shoes, and clear ice from driveways and walkways if you can.
- Keep Your Home Warm and Safe - Check your heating system to ensure it’s working properly. Keep space heaters away from flammable materials, and never leave them unattended. Keep a backup plan in case of power outages, and use caution with candles.
- Hydrate and Eat Well - Even in cold weather, it's important to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids and eat warm, balanced meals to maintain energy and strength.
- Protect Your Health - Cold weather can strain your heart, especially if you have existing health conditions. Take it easy when shoveling snow or doing physical activity outdoors. Also, remember to wash your hands frequently and wear a mask if you're around others to help prevent illness.
- Check on Loved Ones - Elderly neighbors and family members may be more vulnerable to cold weather. Make sure they’re staying warm, have adequate food, and don’t need assistance.
Stay safe, stay warm, and take care of yourself and others during this winter weather.
